Medical Treatment in Mexico While we were considering the purchase of a condominium in Puerto Penasco we began to question where would we go to receive medical treatment in the event of an emergency or routine medical visits? We questioned if our U.S. health insurance would cover our medical expenses while traveling and living in Mexico. What if we are staying in Mexico for an extended period of time, where do we go for medical treatment? Can we buy Mexican health insurance coverage?
AZCentral.com Article Azcentral.com ran a very interesting and informative article August 29, 2009 on the Mexican IMSS health coverage (Mexican Social Security Institute) that is available to foreigners. I have posted a link to the article below. We will be posting Mexican healthcare coverage articles in the future. As part of our Realty Executives Rocky Point Speaker Series we will have experts in the medical tourism and international health Insurance field as presenters. If you have any first hand experience with the IMSS coverage or know someone who has, Puerto Penasco Living would like to hear from you. Please contact us at information@puertopenascoliving.com and tell us your story and your thoughts on the coverage. In the mean time, please check out two books written by Robert and Curtis Page both MDs about Health and Safety Travel in Mexico. Links to the books on Amazon can be found on this page.
