Las Palomas resort is located in Puerto Peņasco, Mexico - Rocky Point - along the Sea of Cortez on Sandy Beach. It is the first resort in Rocky Point to be awarded 4 diamonds by the American Automobile Association. This resort is our home away from home. Stephanie and I purchased our two bedroom, two bath 1400 sq foot condominium in 2007. A friend of ours has a place there and recommend that we give it a try. I was quite unaware of what to expect.

IPuerta Privada is located on the site of a former RV park located along the Sea of Cortez on Sandy Beach. It sits between Las Palomas Sea Side Golf Community and the Sonoran Sky. The owner of the RV park partnered with the developers of Sonoran Sky and Sonoran Sea to develop Puerta Privada.

Puerta Privada is a private gated community. Unlike many of the other condominium resorts on Sandy Beach that allow short term rentals, Puerta Privada is the only non rental beachfront condo development in Rocky Point, Mexico.

Rocky Point’s Master Planned Community
Sandy Beach Resorts has a long history in the town of Puerto Penasco. Purchased in 1940 by Duncan Brown, a Mexican Citizen of American descent, the 3,374 acres of land located just northwest of Rocky Point, was originally owned by the Mexican Federal Government. Duncan would travel regularly to the Sonoran Capital of Hermosilio. While en route by way of train, Duncan passed through the quaint little fishing village of Puerto Penasco where he met the white sandy beaches on the Sea of Cortez. Upon his death, Duncan’s widow sold the land to her brother-in-law Gus Brown, Sr. in 1956.

Offering Peace and Tranquility
Stephanie and I took a drive to visit Laguna Shores Resort that we have read so much about in the local English newspapers, Rocky Point Times and Join Us. The resort is currently advertising a 2 for 1 special. Offering two condos for the prrice of one. Whe wanted to know what all the hype was about.
Finding Laguna Shores
Finding Laguna Shores wasn’t too hard. We traveled west off of highway 8 north of town taking the new federal coastal highway 6 miles to the resort entrance. A guard gate marked the entrance to the resort. After we checked-in with the guard we drove the remaining 2 mile stretch on a well maintained dirt road.
