Breakfast at Coffee’s Haus
Puerto Penasco, Mexico
-

Let’s talk breakfast.
The most important meal of the day. Where in Rocky Point can you find a delicious, economical breakfast, that will accommodate any appetite. Our answer is, The Coffee Haus. The Coffee Haus is a breakfast and lunch bistro tucked on a hillside just south of the old port. Established by German Pastry Chef, Uwe Holtze, and his wife Lily in 2005, the Coffee Haus was named after Uwe’s dog “Coffee”. Uwe, originally from Germany, lived in Canada and Boston before settling in Puerto Penasco. He brought with him a taste of Europe, combined with American, Canadian and Mexican fare

La Casa del Capitan
High on Whale Hill, Puerto Penasco.

Spectacular View of the Sea of Cortez
Perched high on Whale Hill in the heart of the shrimp market shopping district of Rocky Point, La Casa del Capitan restaurant has one of the most spectacular views of the Sea of Cortez and Sandy Beach in all of Puerto Peñasco. On a clear, late afternoon, as the sun sets to the west in late september, dinner guests are awash in rays of light emanating from behind the mountain range of the Baja Peninsula.

Established in 1993 by the Garcia Family, the first stone of La Casa del Capitan was laid in 1990. 15 years later diners are treated to spectacular views, a vibrant atmosphere, and authentic Mexican food.

Mary’s Sea Food Restaurant
On the Malécon/Shrimp Market Rocky Point

Biker Rally weekend in Rocky Point was held Nov 5-8, 2009. Steph and I were in town for the Rally and spent Saturday afternoon people watching and enjoying the hundreds of custom bikes at the Malécon/Shrimp market. The Penasco police blocked the shrimp market area from automobile traffic and allowed only motorcycles. Bikes were lined up all the way down the main drag. You can view pictures of the rally on our Biker Rally page.

Right Next to Falivos
We grabbed a bite to eat at the newly renovated restaurant on the Malecon named Mary’s Sea Food Restaurant located right next to Falivos as you come around the curve.

Max’s Cafe for Breakfast
American & Mexican Dishes

Friendly atmosphere, free Wi-Fi, free calls to the states and outdoor seating make Max’s a favorite hangout for tourist and the locals of Puerto Peńasco. Located at the west end of Calle 13 and across the street from.Penasco del Sol, Max’s is within walking distance of the resorts on Sandy Beach.

Hot Spot During Peak Season
Breakfast is a hot spot during peak season. From 8amto 1:30 pm you can order everything from a traditional American 2 eggs, bacon, and toast for $5.25 to a Hangover Burrito to Lox and Bagels.

Sr. Amigos Restaurant
In the Shrimp Market District of Puerto Penasco

Located in the shrimp market district along the Sea of cortez, Sr. Amigos is a relaxing stop for lunch during your busy shopping day. Offering fantastic views of the sea and Sandy Beach, you’ll be treated to a show by the local pelicans and sea gulls as they work for a hand out from Sr. Amigos’ patrons. And if you are lucky one will conduct a fly-by and retrieve as you hold your hand out with a chip or piece of shrimp. The kids will love it!

Puesta del Sol Restaurant
On the Sea at Playa Bonita

Chefs from Puesta del Sol were on hand to impress the crowed at the 4th annual Puerto Peńasco Camerón Fiesta 2009. The sound of music filled the air and dancers entertained as the chefs cooked up their special shrimp dishes. You can view a short clip of their handy work on the right.

Enjoyable and Relaxing Dinner
In our opinion, probably the most enjoyable and relaxing dinners in Rocky Point is at the Puesta del Sol restaurant on the Playa Bonita Hotel grounds. If you are staying in the Sandy Beach area, this place is worth trying. Puesta Del Sol is within walking distant of the many resorts. One of the benefits of eating and drinking here is that you can walk the beach home if you have one too many cervazas or margaritas.

Latitude 31 Restaurant
Enjoy the view of the Old Port

Sitting high on a hill with a spectaculair view overlooking the old port of Peńasco is Latitude 31. Former Phoenix residents Mike and his wife Cindy opened the restaurant and bar 11 year ago after buying a hill side lot on which Latitude 31 currently sits and selling another restaurant they owned in Puerto Peńasco. Mike says when his wife is away he’s the owner, when Cindy is around he is just the bar tender.

Mike is a very friendly guy, striking up a conversation with all those who come in for a meal or drink. Hanging over the bar is a 1988 photograph of a thrasher shark that he and his buddies had brought in during low tide. He says one day in 88 when the tide had started to go out, the shark was in relatively low water in front of JJ’s Cantina.

Giuseppi’s Espresso
Coffee House and Restaurant in Rocky Point

Maria opened Giuseppi’s 5 years ago originally as a coffee house. Eventually she turned her popular cafe into an American style restaurant serving all you can eat breakfasts buffet, lunches and Italian dinners. Originally from Hungry by way of Canada, Maria lives part time in North Phoenix, in the Moon Valley area, and the other half in Mexico.

Giuseppie is located on Fremont Blvd on the way to Las Conchas across the street from the auto repair shop and next to the Black Dog. Maria’s restaurant is very spacious, relaxing and clean. I particularly enjoyed the outdoor court yard. It’s right off of the busy blvd, but once you step in you are greeted by the soothing sound of a three tiered water fountain that is decorated with flowers and lined with blue and white tile.

Thirsty Parrot Bar and Grill

A few months back Steph and I were in town with my sister and brother-in-law. We stopped by the Thirsty Parrot to give it a try. The place was packed. Brent Burns was there that weekend entertaining the crowd. Brent can be compared to Jimmy Buffet with his own take on the curve ball life throws us. Owned by four Americans, Cathi Boyle, Terry Miller, Steve and Warren Nitz, as well as Mexican national Javier Ortega, the partners strive to create a beachy casual atmosphere that welcomes you to eat, drink, relax and enjoy! It’s our understanding that they have been open for about a year.
